MemberWise Survey Reveals Critical Digital Benchmarks for Association Leaders

The MemberWise Network has released the findings of its Digital Excellence (2026) research project, providing a high-fidelity snapshot of the digital maturity and strategic priorities across the UK’s membership and association sector. Based on data collected from over 30 research partners and the Trade Association Forum (TAF), the report serves as the primary independent benchmark for organisations navigating the complexities of post-pandemic Digital Innovation.

Strategic Priorities: Beyond the Website

The 2026 report indicates a decisive shift in focus from front-end web presence toward deeper System Integration and the elimination of data silos. While Association Management Systems (AMS) and CRM stability remain foundational, the sector’s “Digital Leaders” are increasingly prioritising:

  • Automation Adoption: Streamlining administrative workflows to reduce the burden on the Secretariat.
  • AI Integration: Moving from theoretical interest in Artificial Intelligence to practical applications in member services and predictive analytics.
  • Online Communities & Apps: Enhancing the “year-round” value proposition through dedicated mobile platforms and peer-to-peer networking.

The project, notably independent of commercial sponsorship to ensure data integrity, highlights that “standing still is not an option” as vendor consolidation and rapid technological shifts redefine the marketplace.

Benchmarking for Business Case Success

The statistically significant findings are designed to be weaponised by CEOs and Digital Directors to bolster internal business cases for capital expenditure. By providing a clear view of where peers are investing—and where they are struggling—the report allows boards to determine if they are “ahead of the game or behind the curve.”MemberWise Survey Reveals Critical Digital Benchmarks for Association Leaders

Key areas of scrutiny in the report include budget management for digital transformation, the efficacy of current CPD and Online Learning platforms, and the evolving role of web analytics in driving Member Engagement.

Industry Perspectives

“As a Digital Leader in a membership body, I often find myself asking questions like – how do we compare, are we ahead of the game or behind the curve? What can I learn from my peers, and also what can I share to help them? Digital technology is evolving at an ever-faster pace… the DX Survey is a great opportunity to share your own journey – and for us to learn from each other.” — Nick Klee, Director of Technology, Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA)
